Mohammed Durnion Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Reanne Coulson Death
Warwick Crown Court has delivered a guilty verdict against Mohammed Durnion for the manslaughter of Reanne Coulson, a mother of two whose body was discovered in a shallow grave in woodland near Coventry. The 42-year-old defendant was not convicted of murder, but jurors concluded he was responsible for her death through unlawful killing.
Disturbing Details Emerge During Trial
Prosecutors presented evidence that Durnion strangled the 33-year-old victim during a deliberate attack on May 21 last year. The court heard that when police responded to a neighbor's emergency call at Durnion's Paynes Lane flat in Coventry, the defendant feigned a mental health crisis to divert suspicion.
Officers conducted a limited search of the property using only a mobile phone torch but failed to locate Ms. Coulson's body, which investigators believe had been concealed beneath a mattress at that time. Following the police departure, Durnion moved the remains to Binley Woods, where they remained hidden for more than five weeks before discovery.
Gruesome Discovery and Attempted Cover-up
The victim's body was found partially burned with petrol in the woodland area near a bridleway. Durnion initially refused to cooperate with authorities after his arrest on June 24 but eventually led police to the burial site three days later. Video evidence presented in court shows him pointing to undergrowth and telling officers, "she is under there," while noting the body had been buried "deep enough."
Adam Moore, 39, a friend of Durnion, was also convicted for assisting an offender by helping conceal the corpse in the woods. The trial revealed that Ms. Coulson, who worked as a sex worker and stood 5 feet 1 inch tall weighing under nine stone, had last been seen alive attending a support group at a Catholic church where she appeared to be in good health.
Contradictory Defense Claims
Durnion had claimed during proceedings that Ms. Coulson died from a drug overdose following an argument, but this account was rejected by the jury. Witnesses reported hearing screams and cries for help from the victim approximately five weeks before her remains were ultimately discovered.
The sentencing for Mohammed Durnion will occur at a later date, while the case continues to develop with additional details expected to emerge as the judicial process advances.
