A 20-year-old man from south London has been found guilty of possessing a bomb-making manual and sharing an Islamic State execution video. Shuja Gibraeel Mohsin was arrested at Heathrow Airport in January 2024 after returning from a trip to Pakistan.
Guilty Verdict at the Old Bailey
On Friday, a jury at the Old Bailey found Mohsin guilty of possessing a document likely to be useful to a terrorist and two counts of disseminating terrorist material. The Metropolitan Police revealed that a bomb-making manual and an ISIS execution video were found on his phone, which he had sent to an online contact.
Extremist Material Found
A USB stick also showed that Mohsin had been viewing material and joining chat groups linked to extremist Islamist groups, including the Taliban, Hamas, and Islamic State. Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, stated: "Our investigation showed that Mohsin was being drawn into extremist and terrorist material and ideologies from when he was only 14 or 15 years old."
Growing Concern Over Radicalisation
Flanagan highlighted a growing trend of young people being radicalised online and urged parents to monitor their children's internet activity. Mohsin's phone was seized in January 2024, and he was arrested in March 2024. His computer was also confiscated. He made no comment when further arrested in July 2024 and questioned about the material. Sentencing is set for August 14.
