Jealous husband guilty of stabbing wife to death in Lewisham home
Lewisham husband guilty of murdering wife in jealous rage

A man from south-east London has been convicted of murdering his wife in a brutal attack driven by jealousy, a court has heard.

A Fatal Attack in the Family Home

Hai Van Nguyen, of Hatfield Close in New Cross Gate, Lewisham, was found guilty of killing Hien Thi Vu at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, December 15. The court was told that Nguyen, consumed by the belief his wife was having an affair, subjected her to intense questioning.

In the hours before her death, he forced her to access her Transport for London app to account for her movements. The attack took place in the couple's home on Sunday, April 13, a place where Hien should have felt safest.

Nguyen later handed himself in at a police station. Officers attended the address on Hatfield Close and discovered Hien in her bedroom. She had suffered seven stab wounds. A bloody knife was recovered from her bedside drawer.

Justice and a Plea for Help

Nguyen was arrested immediately upon his surrender and charged the following day. He is now awaiting sentence, which is scheduled for Friday, December 19.

The investigation was led by Detective Inspector Stephanie Dexter from the Metropolitan Police. "This is a tragic case and our thoughts remain with the couple’s three children who are grieving for the sudden loss of their mother," she said. "Nguyen was a jealous man who carried out a brutal attack on his wife in their own home."

DI Dexter used the case to reinforce the police's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls. "We would encourage victims to reach out to police or other support agencies to seek help," she stated. "We will respond with sensitivity, and we will work with you to provide the appropriate support, whilst keeping you safe and dealing robustly with the perpetrator."

A Life Lost and a Family Shattered

The conviction brings a measure of legal closure, but the human cost is immense. Hien Thi Vu leaves behind three children, who must now navigate life without their mother.

The case highlights the deadly potential of coercive control and unfounded jealousy within relationships. Support services are available for anyone who feels unsafe, and the police emphasise that reports will be taken seriously and handled with care.
