Robert Mueller, the former FBI director who led the high-profile investigation into Donald Trump's campaign ties with Russia, has died at the age of 81. His family confirmed the news in a statement released on Saturday, expressing deep sadness at his passing.
Mr. Mueller, who served as FBI director for 12 years under President George W. Bush, died on Friday. He returned to public service as special counsel overseeing the Trump-Russia inquiry, which became one of the most consequential investigations in Justice Department history.
Trump's Controversial Response
President Donald Trump responded to news of Mueller's death with harsh criticism on his Truth Social platform. The president wrote: "Robert Mueller just died. Good, I'm glad he's dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!" This statement came just hours after the family's announcement.
