A driver has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was struck by a car in Sidcup, south-east London, in an incident police believe stemmed from a street argument.
Altercation Precedes Collision
Metropolitan Police officers were called to Foots Cray High Street at approximately 8.20pm on Sunday, 14 December. They had received reports that a person was injured at the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered a 40-year-old man with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. Initial investigations indicate the victim was involved in an altercation with another man shortly before the collision occurred.
Suspect Known to Victim
The Metropolitan Police have stated that the two men involved are thought to be known to each other. According to a police spokesperson, a verbal exchange took place before the second man got into a car, which was then in collision with the victim.
The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Man Remains in Custody
A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody for questioning.
The police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They are asked to call 101, quoting the reference CAD 6360/14Dec.
Local residents reported a significant police presence in the area on Sunday evening, with part of the high street cordoned off for forensic examination.
