A 17-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to arson not endangering life following an attack on Kenton United Synagogue in north-west London. The incident occurred late on Saturday night, with footage posted online showing a figure in dark clothing setting fire to a bottle of liquid and throwing it through a window at the synagogue in Harrow.
Details of the Attack and Legal Proceedings
The teenager, a British national from Brent, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court, where he admitted to the charge. Due to his age, his identity has not been disclosed to the public. The attack resulted in minor smoke damage to an internal room of the synagogue, but fortunately, there were no injuries or significant structural damage reported.
Response from Authorities and Community
The Jewish charity, the Community Security Trust, confirmed the damage was limited and emphasized that no one was harmed during the incident. In a related development, the Metropolitan Police stated that a 19-year-old man, who was also arrested in connection with the attack, has been released on bail pending further inquiries. Police were seen giving statements to the media at the scene near the synagogue on Sunday, the day after the attack, as investigations continue.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about security at religious sites in London. The swift legal action underscores the seriousness with which such incidents are treated by authorities. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses, with community leaders calling for vigilance and support to prevent future attacks.
