Tottenham Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murder and Rape Charges
Simon Levy, a 40-year-old unemployed man from Tottenham, has entered not guilty pleas to charges of murdering two sex workers and raping a third woman. The defendant appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from Belmarsh prison, wearing a grey tracksuit and appearing to take notes during the hearing before Judge Mark Lucraft KC.
Alleged Attacks on Three Women
Levy is accused of murdering Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, on or before March 17 last year. Her body was discovered in a largely disused block of flats on the Aylesbury estate in Southwark. Prosecutors allege Levy killed her during a sexual encounter the day before she was found.
Five months later, on August 24, Levy allegedly murdered Sheryl Wilkins, 39. Police found her collapsed near High Road, Tottenham, at 6:30 a.m. that morning. It is claimed Levy met her shortly before 1 a.m. and they walked toward a car park together.
Violent Assault on Surviving Victim
The charges also include a violent sexual attack on a third woman on High Road, Tottenham, on January 21 last year. This surviving victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, allegedly agreed to provide sexual services to Levy before suffering a broken collarbone and losing consciousness.
Levy has denied two charges of rape, grievous bodily harm with intent, and non-fatal suffocation against this woman. All three women were reportedly sex workers, according to court documents.
Legal Proceedings and Trial Date
During Friday's hearing, Judge Lucraft set a further hearing for May 15 and remanded Levy into custody. The defendant is scheduled to face trial at the Old Bailey beginning June 22. The case continues to develop as prosecutors prepare their evidence against Levy.
The alleged crimes have drawn attention to violence against sex workers in North London, with police increasing patrols in the High Road area following the incidents. Community members express concern while awaiting the outcome of the judicial process.
