Raaheeb has emerged as a leading contender for the Epsom Derby after a breathtaking performance in the Classic Trial at Sandown Park on Saturday. The three-year-old colt, trained by John Gosden, stormed to a three-length victory, prompting bookmakers to slash his odds for the premier Classic from 25-1 to 8-1.

Ridden by Frankie Dettori, Raaheeb took the lead two furlongs out and never looked back, winning comfortably despite being eased near the finish. The time was exceptionally fast, suggesting the horse has significant potential for longer distances.
“He’s a very exciting prospect,” said Gosden. “He’s shown he stays well and has a good turn of foot. We’ll see how he comes out of this race before making final plans, but the Derby is definitely on the agenda.”
Market Moves
Following the win, bookmakers reacted swiftly. Paddy Power cut Raaheeb to 10-1 from 25-1, while Betfair now offers 8-1. The horse is now joint-third favorite behind Auguste Rodin and Military Order.
- Raaheeb: 8-1 (from 25-1)
- Auguste Rodin: 7-2 favorite
- Military Order: 5-1
Raaheeb’s victory also boosted the form of other horses in the race. Second-placed Artistic Star was promoted to 16-1 for the Derby, while third-placed Spirit of Law remains at 33-1.
What’s Next?
Gosden indicated that Raaheeb may have one more prep race before Epsom, likely the Dante Stakes at York or the Lingfield Derby Trial. “We’ll monitor his recovery, but he’s a straightforward horse,” the trainer added.
The Epsom Derby takes place on June 3, with Raaheeb aiming to give Gosden his fourth victory in the race.
