Arsenal Positioned as Favorites in Pursuit of German Striker Nicolo Tresoldi
Arsenal Football Club has reportedly identified Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi as a prime summer transfer target and have emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signature, according to multiple reports originating from Germany. The Premier League leaders are said to have already initiated discussions regarding a potential move for the highly-rated 21-year-old forward.
Impressive Debut Season in Belgium
Nicolo Tresoldi is currently enjoying a remarkable debut campaign with Club Brugge following his £6 million transfer from German second-tier side Hannover 96 last summer. The young striker has rapidly established himself as one of the most exciting emerging talents in Belgian football, delivering an impressive return of 13 goals and two assists across 30 league appearances this season.
Despite having arrived in the Belgian Pro League just months ago, Tresoldi's performances have not gone unnoticed by Europe's elite clubs. According to the respected German newspaper Bild, numerous clubs across the continent are now showing "great interest" in the promising forward, with Arsenal having specifically placed him "on their shortlist" for the upcoming transfer window.
Arsenal's Serious Interest Confirmed
Christian Falk, Bild's Head of Football, provided additional details to his followers on social media platform X, confirming that Arsenal have established themselves as the "favorites" to complete a deal for Tresoldi and that discussions are "well underway" between the parties involved. Falk further emphasized that Arsenal are "seriously interested" in bringing the Germany Under-21 international to the Emirates Stadium as they seek to further strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.
This potential move comes after Arsenal significantly bolstered their frontline last summer with the high-profile acquisitions of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke for a combined fee approaching £165 million. Tresoldi, who is currently contracted to Club Brugge until June 2029, represents another strategic addition to their offensive arsenal.
International Future Uncertain
Beyond the transfer speculation surrounding his club future, there remains some uncertainty regarding Tresoldi's international allegiance. Born in Italy to an Italian father and Argentinian mother, the striker is known to be under consideration by Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann as a potential focal point for the national team's attack in the coming years.
However, Bild reports that the Argentinian Football Association has also made contact with the player's inner circle to gauge his openness to switching international allegiance. During a November press conference, Nagelsmann hinted that Tresoldi could potentially be included in Germany's squad for this year's World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, stating: "There are many players in the mix who could make the squad. That could include Assan Ouedraogo, that could include Lennart Karl, that could include Nicolo Tresoldi."
Previous Interest from AC Milan
Italian giants AC Milan have previously been credited with strong interest in Tresoldi, and the young forward himself has openly discussed his admiration for the Serie A club. In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Tresoldi revealed: "It wouldn't be bad to score a goal with the Milan shirt from a Rafael Leao assist. I've met him once at San Siro. I'm a Milan fan, and I really enjoyed it. It was nice and unexpected."
He added: "Milan is a dream that pushes me to work every day. I'm really happy here at Club Brugge, but I know I have a long way ahead of me. The dream of playing for Milan is inside my head, and I think about it every morning when I wake up."
Despite this admitted affection for the Italian club, current indications suggest Arsenal have taken the lead in the race to secure Tresoldi's services, with concrete discussions already progressing as the summer transfer window approaches.
