Charlton Athletic Seal Lyndon Dykes Transfer, Beat Leicester & Ipswich
Charlton sign Lyndon Dykes in Championship coup

Charlton Athletic have pulled off a significant transfer coup, securing the signature of experienced striker Lyndon Dykes ahead of Championship promotion-chasers Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

Addicks Win Three-Way Race for Proven Striker

The London club confirmed the permanent signing of the 30-year-old Scotland international on Thursday afternoon, the 15th of January 2026. Dykes arrives from Birmingham City, where he had struggled to secure a regular starting role under manager Chris Davies this season, despite helping the club achieve promotion last term.

Dykes brings considerable second-tier pedigree to The Valley, with 177 Championship appearances and 37 goals to his name. His move is driven by a desire for more playing time as he aims to secure a spot in Scotland's squad for the upcoming World Cup in the summer.

A Vital Short-Term Boost for Nathan Jones's Attack

This deal represents Charlton's second signing of the January window, following the loan arrival of Harry Clarke from Ipswich Town. Dykes has signed a short-term contract that will run until the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.

Manager Nathan Jones expressed his delight at the acquisition, highlighting the specific qualities Dykes will add to his squad. "We’re delighted to bring Lyndon to the club," Jones told the club's media. "He’s a big, physical striker who works hard, scores goals and brings plenty of Championship experience, giving us another strong option in attack."

Dykes Adds Competition and Experience

The striker is expected to provide direct competition for fellow forward Charlie Kelman, another former Queens Park Rangers player who joined Charlton last summer. Kelman's season has been mixed; after failing to score in his first twelve league games, he netted against Swansea City before an injury setback. He marked his return in late December with two goals against Blackburn Rovers.

Dykes himself is familiar with London football, having spent four years with QPR before his move to Birmingham. Speaking about his transfer to Charlton, Dykes said: "I'm super pleased and I can't wait to get going. It's going to be really exciting for myself and my family, and I think there's going to be good times to come."

Securing the striker's signature ahead of clubs with genuine promotion aspirations is viewed as a major statement of intent from Charlton Athletic as they look to strengthen their position in the Championship table during the second half of the season.
