Chelsea are actively seeking to offload French defender Axel Disasi during the January transfer window, with the club having offered the player to a quartet of potential suitors. This is according to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Disasi Offered in Permanent Deal
Romano states that Chelsea have "offered" the 26-year-old centre-back to Barcelona, Roma, Olympique Lyon, and Paris FC. The Blues are insisting on a permanent transfer for the player, who cost £39 million when signed from Monaco in 2023, and will not entertain any loan proposals.
Disasi has become a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge, failing to make a single appearance this season after spending the latter half of the previous campaign on loan at Aston Villa. His significant salary remains a potential hurdle for any interested club, despite his current exile from the first-team squad.
Defensive Shuffle at Stamford Bridge
The potential departure comes as Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca looks to streamline his options. The Italian has a history of being ruthless with players he does not use, and Disasi appears to be the latest casualty. This is despite Chelsea's own defensive inconsistencies this term.
The Blues remain in a fierce battle for a Champions League place. A win in their next game against Bournemouth would see them close the gap to league leaders Arsenal to ten points. While strengthening the backline has been a topic of discussion, selling before buying seems to be the current strategy.
Could Marc Guehi Be the Answer?
If Chelsea do succeed in moving Disasi on, a move for a new centre-back becomes more plausible. The most prominent name linked is Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.
Guehi has just six months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park, making a January move a distinct possibility. Chelsea are understood to be keen, but face competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich. The German giants could even agree a pre-contract with the player next month.
By selling Disasi, Chelsea could generate funds to make a decisive offer for Guehi, attempting to beat their rivals to his signature ahead of the summer.
