Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris has urged the Blues to make a shock move for Manchester City star Bernardo Silva, who is set to leave the Etihad on a free transfer this summer. Silva joined City from Monaco for £43 million nine seasons ago and has been a key figure in their success.
Chelsea's Turbulent Season
Chelsea have endured another difficult campaign under BlueCo's ownership, with five consecutive Premier League defeats leaving them likely to miss out on Champions League football. Although they have reached the FA Cup final, the sackings of Enzo Maresca and his replacement Liam Rosenior have left the club in a state of uncertainty heading into the summer transfer window.
Morris Advocates for Experience
Morris believes Chelsea should deviate from their aggressive youth-first transfer policy to bring in experienced players. He highlighted Silva as an ideal signing, praising his intelligence, bravery, and consistency. 'His performance the other day was absolutely outstanding,' Morris said. 'He plays with pure intelligence, is brave as you like, and turns up in big games.'
However, Morris expressed doubts that Silva would be interested in joining Chelsea due to their lack of Champions League football and absence of high-profile leaders. 'If I was Bernardo Silva, I wouldn't be looking anywhere near Chelsea,' he admitted. 'That's where a problem lies. We aren't qualifying for the Champions League, and experienced players want to see other experienced players coming through the door.'
Chelsea return to action on Monday when they host Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
