Chelsea Football Club have encountered an early setback in their pursuit of highly-rated Nantes defender Tylel Tati, with reports confirming the Blues' opening transfer bid has been firmly rejected. According to sources in France, the Premier League side tested the waters with an informal offer worth approximately €30 million, equivalent to around £26 million, for the teenage centre-back.

The 18-year-old French youth international has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season at Nantes, establishing himself as a key figure in manager Ahmed Kantari's defensive line. Tati made his senior debut in the club's opening match of the campaign against Paris Saint-Germain and has since featured prominently, starting 18 of the last 20 fixtures.

Chelsea had reportedly hoped to secure Tati's signature this month before immediately loaning him back to Nantes for the remainder of the season. However, with the January transfer window set to close imminently, the likelihood of a deal being completed appears increasingly remote due to time constraints.
Broader Chelsea Defensive Targets
Tati is not the only French defender attracting attention from Stamford Bridge this winter. Chelsea have also been actively pursuing Rennes' Jeremy Jacquet, with personal terms reportedly agreed between the player and the London club. Nevertheless, negotiations with Rennes over a transfer fee have yet to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
Rennes manager Habib Beye expressed his frustration regarding the ongoing speculation, stating: 'It is a situation that is disturbing for everyone. We have profiles that are sought after. This period isn't simple. We'll have to get through it.'
Chelsea's Transfer Structure Under Rosenior
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior recently clarified his role within the club's recruitment framework, emphasising his limited direct involvement in transfer dealings.
