Crystal Palace have been thrust into the search for a new manager after Oliver Glasner confirmed he will depart Selhurst Park when his contract expires this summer.
Glasner's Historic Tenure Comes to an End
The 51-year-old Austrian boss delivered the club's first major trophy last year, masterminding a memorable FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. Despite this historic success, Glasner revealed a decision on his future was made months ago.
"A decision has already been taken, months ago," Glasner stated at a press conference. "I had a meeting with Steve [Parish] in October, the international break. We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract."
The manager explained that both he and chairman Steve Parish agreed to keep the news confidential to avoid disruption during a busy period. Glasner informed the playing squad of his decision this week to ensure clarity for the remainder of the campaign.
Early Favourite Emerges for Palace Hot Seat
Bookmakers have immediately installed Portugal national team coach Roberto Martinez as the early frontrunner, offering odds of 5/1 for him to take over in South London.
A trio of managers are priced closely behind Martinez. Ipswich Town's highly-rated Kieran McKenna, former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers – currently managing Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia – and Rayo Vallecano's Inigo Perez are all listed at 11/2.
The market suggests a wide range of potential candidates, from experienced Premier League figures to coaches from abroad. Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper and ex-Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou are next at 6/1.
Market Lists High-Profile Outsiders
The betting odds also include several notable, if less likely, contenders. Recently departed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is available at 16/1, the same price as former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
The list features a mix of styles and backgrounds, including:
- Gareth Southgate (7/1) – The current England manager.
- Cesc Fabregas (10/1) – The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, now coaching.
- Mauricio Pochettino (12/1) – The former Tottenham and Chelsea manager.
- Thomas Frank (12/1) – The long-serving Brentford boss.
With Glasner's departure now public knowledge, the speculation around his successor is set to dominate the closing months of Crystal Palace's season as the club plans for a new era.
