Gabriel Jesus declares 'My wish is to stay' and targets new Arsenal contract
Gabriel Jesus targets new Arsenal contract after injury return

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has publicly expressed his strong desire to extend his stay at the North London club, aiming to secure a new contract and help end the Gunners' long wait for Premier League glory.

Jesus outlines Emirates future amid previous exit speculation

The Brazilian international, who joined from Manchester City for £45 million in July 2022, has seen his time at Arsenal disrupted by injuries. Most notably, he faced an 11-month lay-off with an ACL injury before making a successful return to action in December last year.

Despite previous speculation linking him with a move away from the Emirates, the 28-year-old has now firmly committed his future ambitions to the club. His current deal is set to expire in 2027, but Jesus is keen to begin discussions over fresh terms.

Striker's impressive return and trophy ambition

Since his return from the lengthy injury setback, Jesus has made an immediate impact. He marked his comeback by scoring the fourth goal in Arsenal's 4-1 victory over Aston Villa, increasing competition for the starting striker role with Viktor Gyokeres.

In total, Jesus has scored 27 goals in 107 appearances for Arsenal. However, he is yet to win a major trophy with the club, a situation he is determined to change. "I came here with a purpose," Jesus stated, emphasising his desire to win silverware in North London.

Focus on fitness and contributing to the title charge

Ahead of Arsenal's Champions League clash with Inter Milan, Jesus spoke candidly about his recent challenges. "My first target is to be healthy," he told Sky Sports. "This is my fourth season at Arsenal, and unfortunately I have played maybe one and a half or two seasons, the rest have had injuries."

He confirmed that formal talks over a new contract have not yet begun, but his intention is clear. "My wish is to stay at Arsenal... If you ask me, I wanted to extend my contract, extend my stay and win trophies with Arsenal," he affirmed.

The striker's declaration comes as Mikel Arteta's side continues to lead the Premier League title race. Despite being held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest, Arsenal maintained a healthy advantage at the summit after rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa both suffered defeats.

Jesus acknowledged the competitive environment at a top club, stating, "In a club like Arsenal, big like this, there is no guaranteeing a spot to anyone. So we're all here to help Arsenal to try to win games and at the end of the season win trophies." His commitment provides a significant boost to Arteta as Arsenal pursues success on multiple fronts this campaign.
