Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has declared his ambition to win major honours with the club and his wish to extend his stay in North London, as Mikel Arteta's side continues to compete on multiple fronts this season.
Unfinished Business in North London
The Brazilian striker, who won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, is the only current Arsenal squad member with a championship medal. Despite three consecutive second-place finishes in the league since his arrival, Jesus believes the team is now closing in on glory.
"We are getting closer," Jesus stated. "Unfortunately, the last three seasons since I'm here at Arsenal, we finished in second. But we are in good shape – we are happy we are in the position that we are winning games. I do believe we can win."
His contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, and while he confirmed talks over a new deal have not yet begun, his intentions are clear. "My wish is to stay at Arsenal – I want to extend my contract. I want to stay," he said, emphasising that his primary goal after a long knee injury is to maintain fitness.
Arsenal's Commanding Position on All Fronts
The Gunners head into a crucial Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday night in a commanding position. They have won all six of their group stage matches and need just a point at the San Siro to secure top spot and avoid an extra playoff round.
Manager Mikel Arteta highlighted the significance of finishing first, calling the prospect of skipping the playoffs "massive." The match against Inter, now managed by Cristian Chivu, is Arsenal's fourth consecutive away game in different competitions – a unique scheduling challenge for an English top-flight side.
Domestically, Arsenal's form is equally impressive. They hold a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League and remain active in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, keeping their hopes for a historic treble alive.
Jesus's Personal Mission for Silverware
For Jesus, the collective pursuit is deeply personal. Having joined Arsenal with a clear purpose, he feels a strong sense of unfinished business. "I want to win trophies with Arsenal because I come here with a purpose and that's it," he affirmed.
His experience and winning mentality, forged during his time at Manchester City, are viewed as invaluable assets within a squad that has often been criticised for lacking the final edge. As Arsenal navigates a packed fixture list, Jesus's fitness and form will be pivotal to their chances of ending the season with the silverware he so desperately craves.
