A prominent Manchester United supporters group has launched a blistering attack on the club's leadership, demanding a vote of no confidence and branding minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe an "incompetent clown".
Fan Fury Erupts Over Club 'Circus'
The group, known as The 1958, has called for the immediate removal of both the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe from Manchester United. In a strongly-worded statement, the organisation accused Ratcliffe of turning the club into a "laughing stock" and a "circus" since his investment in 2024, which gave him control of sporting operations.
The 1958, which boasts approximately 100,000 members, expressed deep concern over the club's direction both on and off the pitch. They described watching "mediocre performances from an average team drifting without identity, direction or ambition," while stating the off-field chaos was even worse.
Protest Planned for Fulham Clash
The discontent will manifest in a physical demonstration at Old Trafford. The group has organised a protest to take place at the home Premier League fixture against Fulham on 1 February. This action aims to make their voices heard directly at the stadium, following visible signs of unrest during the recent 2-2 draw at Burnley, where a banner reading "Jim Can’t Fix This" was displayed in the away end.
The fan group's frustrations extend beyond the ownership to the executive team. They have raised specific concerns about the work of chief executive Omar Berrada and football director Jason Wilcox, particularly in the wake of manager Ruben Amorim's dismissal.
A Club at a Crossroads
Amorim was sacked on Monday after just 14 months in charge, a period marked by reported tensions with Wilcox over tactics. His tenure concluded with United finishing 15th last season—their worst-ever Premier League placement—and a defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham. Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has taken interim charge.
The 1958 framed their call to action as a fight for the club's very soul. "Manchester United is 150 years old. That proud history, built by generations of supporters, must be protected," their statement read. They warned that without immediate action, the club risks being stripped of its culture and identity, urging fans to unite before it is too late.
