Manchester United Scout Backs £18m Signing Senne Lammens for Global Stardom
Manchester United's goalkeeping scout Tony Coton has made a bold prediction, stating that Senne Lammens, the club's £18 million acquisition, possesses all the attributes to develop into one of the world's best goalkeepers. Lammens joined United from Royal Antwerp on deadline day last summer, a move that saw the Red Devils bypass a deal for Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez.
Rapid Rise to Prominence at Old Trafford
At just 23 years old, Lammens had only 88 senior appearances before his transfer to Manchester United. Despite this limited experience, he has immediately established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper under manager Ruben Amorim and has maintained his impressive form under Michal Carrick. His aerial dominance and shot-stopping skills have been instrumental in United's climb into the Premier League's top four, showcasing his rapid adaptation to English football.
Coton's Long-Term Vision and Scouting Insight
Coton, who played a key role in securing Lammens' signing, emphasized the goalkeeper's potential in an interview with Inside Carrington. "He's got all the tools and the mental capacity to cope with it all as we've seen," Coton remarked. He added, "If he keeps working as hard as he is doing and we get those little things tidied up, he can be one of the world's best. I'm sure he can." Coton has tracked Lammens for over five years, first noting him at Brugge in 2019 and following his progress through Belgium's youth teams and his breakthrough at Antwerp.
Decision-Making and Focus Behind the Signing
On the decision to sign Lammens last summer, Coton detailed the thorough due diligence process. "We went to present to him why we think it's the right time to move, and he had interest from a lot of clubs in Europe," he explained. Coton was particularly impressed by Lammens' concentration during meetings, noting, "He was just locked onto me, and I'm thinking, yeah, he's got a real focus." When asked if Lammens could start immediately, Coton confidently affirmed, "Yes. Straight away. I've got no qualms about him going into the team if needed."
This endorsement highlights Manchester United's strategic investment in young talent, with Lammens poised to become a cornerstone of the team's future success if he continues on his current trajectory.
