Amad Diallo's 'father-son bond' with sacked Man Utd boss Amorim revealed
Man Utd star 'very sad' over Amorim sacking

Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo has expressed profound sadness following the dismissal of head coach Ruben Amorim, revealing the pair shared an exceptionally close bond he describes as akin to 'father and son'.

An Emotional Farewell to a Key Mentor

Amorim was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford last Monday, concluding a challenging 14-month tenure that statistically made him the club's worst manager of the Premier League era. His reign was marked by reported friction with several high-profile players, including Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho.

However, for Amad Diallo, the departure was a significant personal and professional blow. The Ivorian international, who joined United in January 2021, saw his career at the club revitalised under the Portuguese coach after Amorim's appointment in November 2024.

Amad was transformed into a right-wing-back by Amorim, making 43 appearances, scoring 10 goals, and providing 11 assists, establishing himself as arguably the standout performer of a difficult period.

Diallo's Heartfelt Tribute from AFCON Duty

Speaking to Stats Perform while on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, the 23-year-old opened up about his feelings. "It was a tough topic," Amad admitted. "I was a bit sad because he's the coach who gave me more visibility and more opportunities to play for Manchester United."

He elaborated on his personal reaction to the news, stating, "I was very sad. I even sent him a message to thank him for everything he did for me, both in my life and especially in my career." Amad confirmed he wished Amorim good luck for the future but is now fully focused on his current objective with Ivory Coast.

"We had a very good relationship, almost like a father-and-son relationship," Amad revealed, highlighting the depth of their connection. "He understood me, gave me a lot of advice, and let me play freely. It's very unfortunate, but that's life. You have to adapt, that's football."

Focus on the Present and United's Uncertain Future

Amad has channelled his focus into AFCON 2025, where he has been in scintillating form. He has netted three goals and registered one assist in four games, putting him near the top of the tournament's scoring charts, behind only Morocco's Brahim Diaz.

His performances in Ivory Coast have reinforced his importance, and he is expected to remain a key figure for Manchester United upon his return, regardless of who is appointed as the new permanent manager.

Back at Carrington, the search for Amorim's successor continues. Darren Fletcher will take charge of the imminent FA Cup third-round tie against Brighton, while the club holds talks with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about a potential interim return.

Several names, including Newcastle's Eddie Howe, have been linked with the full-time role, but reports suggest Howe is not interested in the position at this time. The club's hierarchy faces a critical decision as they seek to stabilise after a turbulent period under Amorim's leadership.
