Millwall Player Ratings: Mitchell 'Superb' 9/10 in Ipswich Town Stalemate
Millwall Player Ratings: Mitchell stars in Ipswich draw

Millwall secured a hard-fought and valuable point against high-flying Ipswich Town in a tightly-contested Championship clash at The Valley on Boxing Day. The result ensures Alex Neil's side remain firmly in the play-off places, frustrating a Tractor Boys side who arrived in London with just two defeats in their previous twelve matches.

A Stubborn Defensive Display

Despite Ipswich enjoying the lion's share of possession, a disciplined and organised Millwall side restricted their opportunities and posed a consistent threat on the counter-attack. The home side's resilience was built on a solid defensive foundation, with goalkeeper Max Crocombe earning an 8/10 rating for a performance that included a crucial second-half reaction save from Jaden Philogene.

He was well-protected by a back line that stood firm. Centre-backs Jake Cooper and Caleb Taylor both scored 8/10, with Cooper a constant aerial menace and Taylor almost creating a late winner with a barnstorming run. Full-back Tristan Crama also impressed with an energetic 8/10 display, tirelessly working the right flank.

Mitchell the Midfield Master

The standout performer in a Lions shirt was undoubtedly midfielder Billy Mitchell, who received a 'superb' 9/10 rating. His composure and tenacity in the centre of the park were vital in disrupting Ipswich's rhythm and preventing their possession dominance from becoming overwhelming. The ball seemed glued to his feet as he evaded challenges and provided a crucial outlet for his team.

On the wings, Aidomo Emakhu (8/10) was a lively outlet, while Alfie Doughty (7/10) worked hard but was occasionally clumsy. Further forward, however, Millwall's attack struggled to make a decisive impact. Striker Macaulay Langstaff was rated an 'anonymous' 5/10 on his first league start in seven games, with partner Mihailo Ivanovic only marginally more influential with a 6/10.

Looking Ahead to Bristol City

The point sets Millwall up nicely for their final fixture of 2025, a home encounter against Bristol City at The Den on Monday night. Manager Alex Neil will be pleased with the defensive resolve shown against one of the division's form teams but will demand more cutting edge from his forwards as they look to cement their top-six position.

Substitutes also made positive contributions, with Zak Sturge catching the eye for an 8/10 cameo. The Lions will now aim to carry this determined spirit into their New Year's Eve showdown, hoping to end the calendar year on a winning note in front of their own fans.
