An official description for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has been altered, as Nintendo continues to be bizarrely secretive about the project.
Underwhelming Reveal at Nintendo Direct
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake was the big closing announcement in last week's Nintendo Direct, but it wasn't the blowout many had hoped for. For many, the announcement was expected, as it had leaked months prior, so when the trailer barely showed any footage, beyond Young Link curled up on a bed, it was a slightly underwhelming reveal – especially as it's set to launch later this year.
Fans have been scrambling for more details about the remake since then, which has led to some strange activity on the Nintendo of America website.
Discovery of Original Description
Over the weekend, fans on Reddit discovered a description for the remake, which was visible when you put the term 'Ocarina Of Time remake website US' into a search engine. The description, which could be seen on the Google search page for Nintendo of America's listing for the title but not on the actual website, read: 'The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina Of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.'
While still vague, this is the most detailed description we've had about the remake so far, and seemingly confirms it is a major overhaul of the 1998 original.
Nintendo Alters the Text
However, just a few hours later (via Reddit), Nintendo removed the text and altered it to make it even more generic: 'The Nintendo 64 classic returns for a new generation in 2026, reborn exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.'
It's unclear why Nintendo altered the text, especially as it's still only visible through search engines, but the fact that it did have concerns around the original description is strange. It could be that it's somehow outdated or misleading but more likely it's simply Nintendo's usual obsessive secrecy, which is being taken to a peculiar extreme for a remake of an almost 30 year old game that's presumably going to be out within at least five months from now.
While the mention of 'timeless gameplay' might simply be a pun on Ocarina Of Time, it could suggest that the gameplay in the remake will be largely untouched from the original. The term 'updated designs', however, could relate to anything from the dungeons to the characters.
Nintendo Direct Dominates Summer Game Fest Viewership
Despite the underwhelming reveal, last week's Nintendo Direct had more eyeballs on it than any other presentation from Summer Game Fest, according to analytics firm Level Up.
It's claimed the Nintendo Direct reached a peak viewership of 3.8 million viewers, which is slightly higher than the 3.7 million peak achieved during the main Summer Game Fest presentation. In comparison, Sony's State Of Play hit a peak of 2.9 million viewers, while the Xbox Games Showcase reached 2.2 million.
While God Of War Laufey racked up the most engagement across all the games revealed over the Summer Game Fest season, Level Up claims the trailer for the Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake was the biggest, with an estimated 115 million views across all platforms between June 1-11. God Of War Laufey was in second place with 90.5 million, followed by Resident Evil Veronica with 70.9 million, Kingdom Hearts 4 with 57.1 million, and Spyro: A Realm Beyond with 50.7 million.
