Former Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has issued a firm public demand for the media to cease spreading fabricated stories about his private life, following a bizarre wave of online gossip falsely linking him to Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney.
Pulisic's blunt social media response
The United States international, who now plays for AC Milan, took to his Instagram stories to address the speculation directly. After posting match photos from Milan's 3-0 Serie A victory over Verona, Pulisic shared a separate statement.
"Also please stop with made up stories about my personal life," he wrote. "Need to hold sources accountable it can affect people's lives."
Origin of the unfounded gossip
It is understood the unfounded rumours originated from a popular Instagram account known as DNA da Bomber. The speculation appears entirely baseless, as Pulisic is believed to be in a relationship with 25-year-old American professional golfer Alexa Melton.
Pulisic, 27, has consistently maintained a low profile off the pitch throughout his career in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, England with Chelsea, and now Italy with AC Milan.
Career focus and on-field success
The American attacker is currently enjoying a stellar season with the Rossoneri. Since his €22 million (£19m) transfer from Chelsea in 2023, he has become a key player, notably scoring in last season's Italian Super Cup final win over Inter Milan.
This campaign, he has made an explosive start, netting eight goals in his first 11 Serie A appearances, helping Milan to second place in the table.
Sweeney's own history with Hollywood rumours
For her part, Sydney Sweeney has also been forced to confront false rumours about her personal life in the past. The 28-year-old Euphoria star was previously engaged to film producer Jonathan Davino.
Widespread reports earlier this year suggested the couple had ended their seven-year relationship. When asked in a May interview with The Times if she was still planning a wedding, Sweeney replied bluntly: "No."
Prior to that split, she had to publicly deny "crazy" rumours of an affair with her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell during a monologue on Saturday Night Live.
Pulisic's intervention highlights the increasing pressure public figures face from unchecked online gossip, prompting the footballer to draw a clear line between his professional achievements and his private world.
