Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has pinpointed Aston Villa's rising star Morgan Rogers as the perfect solution to his old club's midfield woes ahead of the January transfer window.
Saha's Verdict: Rogers is 'The Type of Player United Need'
In an interview with FootItalia, Saha outlined the specific profile he believes United must target next month. "In January, I see a need for a replacement who can spark our midfield creativity," Saha stated. While he mentioned Chelsea's Conor Gallagher as a good option, he reserved special praise for the Villa attacker.
"I'd also love to see Morgan Rogers at United," Saha declared. "He definitely has this power, he reminds me a bit of Joelinton. That kind of power, and still very technical, and able to go forward."
The Frenchman elaborated on the 23-year-old's unique qualities, highlighting his ability to drive play forward under pressure. "Having that kind of presence in the midfield is so important. I see Rogers as being able to actually bomb forward, but also get pressed and keep the ball, giving time for other players to move into different positions."
Saha concluded by labelling the England international a "dream signing" for the Red Devils, emphasising his rare blend of athleticism and intelligent decision-making.
Rogers' Stellar Season and England Credentials
Saha's endorsement comes on the back of a sensational campaign for Rogers at Villa Park. The versatile forward, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or left winger, has been instrumental for Unai Emery's side.
This season, Rogers has contributed seven goals and three assists in just 17 Premier League appearances, attracting attention from top clubs. He was a target for both Chelsea and Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
His form has also thrust him into the England conversation. Premier League legend Alan Shearer, speaking to Betfair, claimed Rogers would start for the Three Lions if the 2026 World Cup began now. "Morgan Rogers is unbelievable. He's having a great time, full of confidence," Shearer said. "Rogers has that number 10 spot for England at the moment. If the World Cup started tomorrow, he'd start."
Villa's Stance: Building Around Their Star
Any potential move for Rogers in January would face significant hurdles. Shearer pointed out that Villa, a "huge club" with European ambitions, are more likely to want to construct their future around their prized asset.
"He has just signed a new contract within the last four or five months," Shearer noted. "From a Villa point of view, they want to build that team around Rogers rather than lose him. Emery will be looking to do that in the years ahead."
This creates a complex scenario for Manchester United. While Saha has identified Rogers as the ideal profile to inject power and creativity into their midfield, prising him away from a resurgent Aston Villa in the middle of the season would likely require a monumental offer.
