Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has publicly urged his old club to make a major summer move for Newcastle United and England winger Anthony Gordon, who is valued at a staggering £100 million. Saha's comments come amid growing speculation that Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool are also keen admirers of the 25-year-old attacking talent.
Champions League Ambitions and Managerial Uncertainty
Manchester United's potential appeal to new signings has been significantly boosted by their recent climb to third place in the Premier League under caretaker manager Michael Carrick. This position would likely secure Champions League football for next season, a crucial factor in attracting top-tier talent. The club remains in a state of flux regarding its permanent managerial appointment, with Carrick emerging as the frontrunner to succeed Ruben Amorim on a full-time basis at Old Trafford.
Saha's Vision for United's Attack
Regardless of who ultimately takes the managerial reins, squad reinforcement is expected to be a summer priority. While a central midfielder is seen as a key need following Casemiro's impending departure, Louis Saha believes strengthening the attacking options is equally vital. He has singled out Anthony Gordon as a player he would "love" to see in a Manchester United shirt.
"Anthony Gordon is still a young lad and he has to consider his future on a base of stability and repay the trust that he's got from his manager," Saha stated. "His tournament at the World Cup may change and speed up a little bit. I would love to see a bit more consistency from him, but I would love to see him at Manchester United as well."
Gordon has electrified the Premier League since his £45 million transfer from Everton to Newcastle in 2023, netting 17 goals across all competitions this season. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle placing a £100 million price tag on their star winger due to substantial interest from elite clubs.
The Dream Signing and Realistic Alternatives
While Gordon is a desired target, Saha revealed that his "dream summer signing" for Manchester United would be England teammate Jude Bellingham. He described the idea as "crazy" but praised Bellingham's unparalleled athleticism, versatility, leadership qualities, and world-class status.
"All these qualities would be amazing for United, and I think he'd love to return to England and play in the Premier League. So, it would be a dream," Saha elaborated. However, he acknowledged that players like Bruno Guimaraes or Sandro Tonali might be more attainable and still capable of delivering excellent performances for the club.
Carrick's Impact and Upcoming Fixtures
Saha also commented on the marked improvement at Manchester United under his former teammate, Michael Carrick. "We can all see how they have improved and they can start thinking about the Champions League next year now," he said. "They have momentum and stability. Everything seems to be in place."
After an unusually long 24-day break during the international period, Manchester United are set to resume their Premier League campaign on April 12 with a match against Leeds United. The club will be looking to maintain its positive trajectory and solidify its top-four position as the season reaches its climax.
