Igor Tudor Highlights Mental Sharpness as Key to Tottenham's Recent Upturn
Interim head coach Igor Tudor has pinpointed mental sharpness as the primary reason behind Tottenham Hotspur's improved performances, following a 1-1 draw at Liverpool and a 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 second leg. Despite the win, Spurs were eliminated 7-5 on aggregate after a poor first-leg showing in Madrid.
Tudor Downplays Nottingham Forest Clash as Six-Pointer
Ahead of a crucial Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Tudor played down the notion that this is a six-pointer, emphasizing that there are still eight games left in the season. He stated, "There are a lot of points to play for. Of course, it's an important game because we are together there so let's say not six, but four. It's not a final. Maybe not three points but a four-point game. It is important but it will not be decisive."
This weekend's clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sees 16th-placed Spurs host 17th-placed Forest, with both teams desperate for points to escape the relegation zone, especially as West Ham United have shown signs of improvement recently.
Improved Fitness and Performance Metrics
Tudor also noted significant improvements in player fitness, revealing that recent matches have ranked among the top for high-intensity runs this season. He said, "I saw good energy. I saw good numbers. They told me the last games are in the top four or five of all season for high intensity runs, so I think we are progressing."
The Croatian coach explained that the team's enhanced mental awareness has led to quicker reactions on the pitch, reducing instances of hesitation. "Mental sharpness. That was the key. We are sleeping less on the pitch. For me this is crucial. Now, we react earlier on what happened on the pitch. We are not always wondering what happened and then reacting. We are reacting before things happen. Not in the way I would like but much better. This mental sharpness, awareness of dangerous situations, this is coming and that's why we are better," Tudor added.
As Tottenham prepares for this pivotal match, Tudor's focus remains on maintaining this upward trajectory, with the team aiming to secure vital points in their fight for Premier League survival.
