Non-League Footballer Suspended as Police Probe 'Disgusting' Elbow Incident
Welsh footballer suspended after police investigate elbow incident

A Welsh non-league footballer has been suspended by his club and is under police investigation following a shocking incident during a match last weekend.

The Incident on the Pitch

The event occurred during an Ardal North West League fixture between Trearddur Bay and Porthmadog on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The match took place at The Beach stadium in Gwynedd.

Video footage, widely shared on social media and filmed by a spectator, appears to show Trearddur Bay player Tom Taylor throwing an elbow at an opponent's face. The altercation happened while players were waiting for a penalty to be taken.

Club and Football Association Response

Facing immediate backlash online, with one fan calling the act "absolutely disgusting" and suggesting a life ban, the club acted swiftly.

Trearddur Bay FC released a statement on Sunday, January 18, confirming Taylor's suspension with "immediate effect". The club stated the matter is now "subject to a police investigation" and that they "in no way condone the use of unlawful behaviour".

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) also confirmed it is aware of the incident and will be reviewing it, as tier three matches fall under its direct jurisdiction.

Match Outcome and Ongoing Fallout

Despite the controversy, the match official, referee Richard Gwyn Edwards, did not issue a red card for the incident during the game. The match concluded with a 3-2 victory for Porthmadog.

This result keeps Porthmadog second in the league table, while Trearddur Bay dropped one place to fifth.

The police investigation is now ongoing, and the club has stated it will make no further comment while that process is active.
