Kingston tennis wonderkid Hannah Klugman has been named Girl's Player of the Year at the prestigious LTA Awards, presented by Lexus. The 17-year-old's remarkable achievements over the past year were celebrated at a ceremony held at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton on Thursday, April 16.
A Stellar Year of Junior Tennis Success
Klugman's breakthrough year included making her main-draw debut at Wimbledon, a significant milestone for any young British tennis player. Her impressive run continued with reaching the girls' singles final at Roland Garros, advancing to the semi-finals at the US Open, and making the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Additionally, she competed in the Australian Open girls' doubles final and secured a fourth-place finish at the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals.
"I'm happy and grateful to win this award," Klugman said. "It's been an amazing year for me. I've learned so much, both on and off the court. I want to say a huge thank you to my family, my team and the LTA for all their support. This really means a lot and it motivates me even more to keep working hard and enjoying every step of the journey."
The LTA Awards: Celebrating British Tennis Excellence
The LTA Awards, presented by Lexus, recognize the passion, dedication, and impact of individuals who contribute to the growth of tennis and padel across Britain. First launched in 2015 by former LTA President Cathie Sabin OBE, these awards honor the extraordinary contributions of volunteers, coaches, officials, and players who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to developing the sport at all levels.
This year's ceremony saw more than 3,000 nominations submitted across 14 award categories, highlighting the incredible depth of talent, service, and innovation within British tennis and padel. Each winner was acknowledged for making an outstanding contribution to the sport and helping to make it more accessible to a broader audience.
Commitment to Grassroots Development
LTA President Roy Colabawalla, speaking after the event at the National Tennis Centre, emphasized the importance of grassroots tennis. "The LTA Awards are a chance to recognise the people and venues who truly keep our sport thriving," he said. "Grassroots tennis and padel are at the heart of everything we do, and it's the dedication of volunteers, coaches, officials, and organisers that opens the game up to communities across Britain."
Colabawalla added, "Every finalist demonstrates remarkable commitment, creating opportunities for others and inspiring the next generation of players. Looking ahead, our goal remains clear: to continue to make tennis and padel welcoming, accessible and exciting for everyone, wherever they are and whatever their background."
Hannah Klugman's recognition as Girl's Player of the Year underscores her potential as a rising star in British tennis. Her achievements at such a young age signal a promising future, with the LTA Awards serving as a testament to her hard work and the supportive network behind her success.
