Surrey's rising tennis star Oliver Bonding has clinched the Boys' Player of the Year title at the prestigious LTA Awards, presented by Lexus, marking his second triumph in this category. The 18-year-old prodigy, who trains at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, was honoured during a ceremony held at the same venue on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
A Breakthrough Season Ahead
Bonding, who has previously shared the court with tennis superstars such as Jannik Sinner and Ash Barty, is poised for a breakthrough season. Based at the National Tennis Centre, he expressed his excitement and gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the support from his team, family, and the LTA.
Reflecting on Key Achievements
In his acceptance speech, Bonding remarked, "I'm truly honoured to be named Boys' Player of the Year for a second time." He pointed to three significant accomplishments from the past year: victories at the 18U Nationals, the J300 Roehampton tournament, and reaching the Boys Doubles Final at Wimbledon. "This award is a reflection of all the hard work we've put in together," he added, emphasizing his commitment to continuing his tennis journey with renewed vigor.
Celebrating British Tennis Excellence
The LTA Awards, first launched in 2015 by former LTA President Cathie Sabin OBE, aim to celebrate the passion, dedication, and impact of individuals who contribute to the growth of tennis and padel across Britain. This year's event saw over 3,000 nominations across 14 categories, showcasing the depth of talent and innovation within the sport.
Honouring Grassroots Contributions
LTA President Roy Colabawalla, speaking after the ceremony, underscored the importance of grassroots efforts. "The LTA Awards are a chance to recognise the people and venues who truly keep our sports thriving," he said. He highlighted the dedication of volunteers, coaches, officials, and organisers in making tennis and padel accessible to communities nationwide, with a goal to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
Each award winner was acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to opening up the sport to a broader audience, inspiring future generations of players. The event not only celebrated individual achievements like Bonding's but also reinforced the collective effort driving British tennis forward.
