A residential street in West London descended into chaos after a bus ploughed into a terrace house in Notting Hill. The red single-decker bus smashed through a bay window of a home on St Quintin Avenue, becoming wedged in the building and blocking the pavement. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that two cars were also damaged in the collision. Despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported, and a paramedic in a fast response car was dispatched to the scene.
Emergency response and investigation
The London Fire Brigade was called to the incident at 7:12pm on July 2, with fire crews from North Kensington, Hammersmith, Chelsea, and Croydon attending. The Metropolitan Police also responded alongside the London Ambulance Service. A police spokesperson said: 'Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade. No injuries were reported, no arrests have been made, and no criminal offences have been identified.' The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Neighbour describes 'earthquake' impact
A neighbour who was in the area at the time described the impact as like an 'earthquake', according to the Telegraph. Emergency teams worked to remove the vehicle on St Quintin Avenue this morning, with the street littered with debris. Other buses were diverted while a cordon remained in place at the scene.
Second collision nearby
The incident occurred shortly after another bus collided with a Waymo car metres away on Barlby Road. White Waymo cars are currently being trialled with safety drivers across London ahead of a driverless launch later this year. The Metropolitan Police said no criminal offences had been identified in either incident.
Official statements
A Transport for London spokesperson said: 'The safety of our customers, colleagues, and members of the public is of paramount importance, and we are working closely with the bus operator, First Bus, who are investigating this incident.' Johnny Thalassites from Kensington and Chelsea Council added: 'We’d expect an investigation to be underway to establish the cause, but we’re just glad nobody appears to be seriously hurt.' Anyone with information that may assist police is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 7570/2July.
