Full closure of Hammersmith & City line this weekend
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the entire Hammersmith & City line will be shut on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, due to essential track work. The closure comes as hundreds of thousands of people are expected to travel to central London for Pride in London celebrations and BST Hyde Park concerts.
Partial closures on District, Mildmay, and DLR
In addition to the Hammersmith & City line shutdown, TfL has announced partial closures on the District line, the Mildmay line, and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) for Network Rail maintenance and works at Beckton depot. The District line will have no service from Tower Hill to Upminster and from Earl’s Court to Kensington (Olympia) on both days. The Mildmay line will see no service from Willesden Junction to Shepherd’s Bush after 7.30pm on Saturday and until midday on Sunday. The DLR will not run from Prince Regent to Beckton due to depot works preparing for new trains.
Pride parade and BST Hyde Park to draw huge crowds
The Pride in London parade starts at 12pm on Saturday, July 4, with around 35,000 participants marching from Hyde Park Corner to Trafalgar Square. Organisers expect 1.8 million spectators. Central London stations and bus stops, especially around Soho and Trafalgar Square, will be extremely busy, with exit-only restrictions likely at some stations. Meanwhile, Mumford & Sons and Duran Duran concerts at BST Hyde Park will add to crowds from midday on both days.
Travel advice for attendees
TfL advises passengers to use alternative Tube lines and local bus routes. For Pride, attendees are encouraged to use Bond Street, Charing Cross, Embankment, Leicester Square, Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road, or Victoria stations, which are expected to be less crowded and a short walk from the parade route. Marble Arch, Green Park, Hyde Park Corner, and Knightsbridge stations will be busy due to BST Hyde Park. Some bus routes will be on diversion or stop short due to road closures.
