Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway of Newham Way in Plaistow at around 8.15pm on Thursday, June 25, following reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Two men, aged 18 and 19, were pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. A 16-year-old boy remains in critical condition in hospital.
Three arrested after failing to stop
Three other individuals were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. Officers arrested three men, aged 18, 19, and 23, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop. They are currently in custody as the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit conducts inquiries.
Police appeal for dashcam footage
Detective Chief Inspector James Beck said: "Our thoughts remain with the victims' loved ones following this tragic incident. As we work to build a picture of the circumstances, we are keen to hear from any witnesses to the collision - particularly those with dashcam footage." He added that videos circulating on social media showing the aftermath should not be shared; instead, anyone with information should contact police directly.
