Central Line Tops List for Most Sex Offences on London Underground
Central Line has most sex offences on Tube

Newly released figures have identified the London Underground line with the highest number of recorded sex offences over a recent 12-month period. The data, disclosed by Transport for London (TfL) following a Freedom of Information request, covers the period from April 2024 to March 2025.

The Central Line Leads in Disturbing Statistics

The FOI request, which was submitted on November 21 and published on Friday, December 19, shows a clear leader in the troubling statistics. The Central line recorded 124 sex offences during that year, placing it at the top of the list.

The Northern line followed with 104 incidents, while the Victoria line took third place with 92 reported offences. Close behind was the Jubilee line, which saw 91 recorded sex offences.

The figures reveal a significant drop after the top four lines. The District line recorded 53 offences, the Piccadilly line had 50, and the Metropolitan line saw 36.

Further down the list, the Bakerloo line had 23 incidents. Both the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines each recorded 21 offences. Notably, the Waterloo & City line was by far the safest, with just one recorded sex offence. This is likely due to it consisting of only two stations.

A Shifting Picture in Recent Months

The data also provides a more recent snapshot, covering the period since March of this year. In this timeframe, the Northern line has taken the lead, with 73 recorded offences.

The Victoria, Jubilee, and Central lines have each seen 52 offences since March, while the District line has recorded 35.

TfL's Commitment to Tackling the Issue

In response to the figures, a TfL spokesperson emphasised that tackling violence against women and girls on public transport remains a key priority. They stated that concerted action has been undertaken for a number of years in partnership with policing authorities.

“We have been running large-scale multimedia campaigns to tackle sexual offences and sexual harassment on our transport networks since 2015,” said TfL.

The campaigns aim to achieve three main goals: to raise awareness of unwanted sexual behaviour; to reassure victims that reports are taken seriously and to improve confidence in reporting; and to send a strong message to perpetrators that such behaviour is harmful and will not be tolerated on London's transport network.
