Simba, the British sleep company known for its hybrid mattresses, has expanded its bedding range with the Hybrid Summer Duvet. Designed for warmer months, this duvet incorporates Stratos technology, a phase-change material that absorbs and releases heat to maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature. Priced at £150 for a double size, it promises to keep sleepers cool without the bulk of traditional summer duvets.
What Makes the Simba Hybrid Summer Duvet Different?
The duvet features a unique blend of microfibre and Stratos fibres. According to Simba, the Stratos material actively works to regulate body temperature by absorbing excess heat when you're too warm and releasing it when you cool down. The duvet is also machine washable at 40°C and comes with a five-year guarantee. Its construction includes a hollowfibre fill that provides a light, airy feel, weighing approximately 300g for a double size.
Testing the Cooling Claims
We tested the duvet during a warm spell with nighttime temperatures around 20°C. The first impression was its lightweight nature—it felt noticeably less bulky than standard synthetic summer duvets. Throughout the night, the duvet did not trap heat, and we woke up without feeling sweaty or overheated. The Stratos technology seemed effective, though the difference was subtle compared to a good quality cotton duvet. The cover fabric, a 230 thread count cotton, felt soft and breathable.
One downside is the price; at £150 for a double, it's more expensive than many summer duvets on the market. However, Simba's five-year guarantee and the innovative technology may justify the cost for those who struggle with overheating during sleep. The duvet is also available in single (£125), king (£170), and super king (£190) sizes.
Impact on Sleep Quality
We found the duvet contributed to a more comfortable sleep environment. The temperature regulation meant fewer wake-ups due to feeling too hot. For side sleepers and those who tend to sleep hot, this duvet could be a worthwhile investment. However, for those who prefer a heavier duvet, even in summer, the lightweight feel might take some getting used to.
According to Simba, the duvet is part of their commitment to improving sleep through innovation. A company spokesperson said, "Our Hybrid Summer Duvet uses the same Stratos technology found in our premium mattresses to help regulate your body temperature throughout the night, ensuring you stay comfortable and sleep soundly."
