Borussia Dortmund have placed a €100 million (£86 million) price tag on Felix Nmecha after Gary Neville urged Manchester United to make a move for the Germany international. The 25-year-old midfielder has impressed at the World Cup, starring in Germany's wins over Curacao and Ivory Coast.
Nmecha's Contract and Release Clause
Nmecha, a former Manchester City youngster, joined Dortmund three years ago from Wolfsburg and has four years left on his contract at Signal Iduna Park. His deal includes an €80 million (£69.3 million) release clause, but that will not be active until next year. Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also been linked with the player.
According to Kicker, Dortmund have now set a €100 million (£86 million) asking price to deter potential suitors. Any club looking to sign Nmecha this summer will have to meet that valuation.
United's Midfield Rebuild
Manchester United are seeking to rebuild their midfield this summer. They have already agreed a deal to sign Atalanta's Ederson but are understood to want at least two new midfielders – three if Manuel Ugarte also leaves the club. United have been frustrated in their pursuit of Elliot Anderson, with the Nottingham Forest star preferring a move to Manchester City.
Mateus Fernandes is regarded as a top target, with United thought to be favourites to land the West Ham United star. However, Tottenham have entered the race and are now considered front runners, prepared to make the former Southampton star a huge offer that could surpass United's. West Ham are demanding at least £80 million for Fernandes, a fee United are reluctant to meet.
Neville's Recommendation
Former United captain Gary Neville suggested Nmecha could be a viable alternative to Fernandes if United miss out. Speaking to ITV during Germany's win over Ivory Coast, Neville said: 'The more he plays like he did the other night the more expensive he'll get. But at the moment, we hear Manchester United are being quoted £100 million for the West Ham boy Fernandes, so they're going to have to be looking around this tournament and parts of Europe. He looked outstanding the other night, it looked like he had absolutely everything.'
Nmecha's performances have drawn praise, and with Dortmund's high price tag, United face a significant financial outlay if they pursue the German international.
