Marks & Spencer has revived its wildly popular Red Diamond Strawberry & Creme Sandwich, one year after the Japanese-inspired sando sold 75,000 units in its first five days and caused Foodhalls to sell out almost instantly. Alongside the original, the retailer has introduced a Chocolate, Strawberry & Pistachio Creme Sandwich, priced at £3.50, which has already divided shoppers online.
What is M&S’s new strawberry sandwich?
The returning Red Diamond Strawberry & Creme Sandwich features 'the UK's sweetest strawberries' with whipped cream cheese on fluffy sweetened bread, retailing at £2.80. The new variant uses a cocoa-enriched sweetened bread, a layer of smooth pistachio creme, Fairtrade Belgian dark chocolate sauce, and sliced British strawberries. Both items are available for a limited time only, according to the retailer.
Shopper reactions: 'divine' to 'deranged'
Social media response has been intense. On Instagram, @misslondoncy exclaimed 'Lord, have mercy!', while @milo_mimi_and_me called it 'divine', and @half_cut_dining said 'Omg the pistachio range will be the death of me.' However, critics described the chocolate version as 'wrong on every level', 'deranged', and looking 'grim', according to comments reported by Metro.
Metro's review: fun but not groundbreaking
Courtney Pochin, Senior Lifestyle Reporter at Metro, tried the original strawberry sandwich in June 2025. She wrote: 'It's a super fun twist on the classic summer pairing and makes for a quirky lunch or dessert. The bread is soft and just the right level of sweet, there's a generous amount of creamy filling and the strawberries not only add a wonderful pop of colour, but they also hold their own.' She added: 'Overall, I think this is a great novelty purchase, but it's not anything groundbreaking (it is just bread, cream cheese and strawberries). Anyone who claims it's the best thing they've ever eaten is probably just overhyping it for social media likes.'
Other new M&S products: sweet dips
M&S has also launched two new sweet dips in its picky bits range. The Strawberry & Cream Dip (£3.25) combines whipped cream, full-fat soft cheese, and natural Greek-style yoghurt, layered with strawberry compote. The Chocolate and Pistachio option (£3.75) features Italian and Belgian chocolate ganache mixed with pistachio creme and topped with crushed pistachio pieces.
