Sketch London Unveils New Art Installation by Jonathan Baldock
Sketch London reveals new art by Jonathan Baldock

London's legendary Sketch restaurant, famed for its Instagrammable interiors and avant-garde aesthetic, has once again transformed its artistic identity. The Mayfair establishment has unveiled a complete new suite of artworks by celebrated British artist Jonathan Baldock, marking the latest chapter in its history as a dynamic gallery and dining destination.

A New Artistic Vision for an Iconic Space

The new installation was revealed to the public on Tuesday 13 January 2026, introducing a bold and tactile new dimension to the venue. While the restaurant has retained the sunshine yellow colour scheme created by designer India Mahdavi in 2022, it has now replaced the previous artwork by Yinka Shonibare. Baldock's work follows in the footsteps of other notable artists featured at Sketch, including David Shrigley and Martin Creed.

Inside Baldock's Surreal Creations

The artist's takeover is comprehensive and immersive. The centrepiece of the new look is a collection of 84 vividly coloured clay masks from Baldock's 'Maske' series, which now line the gallery's walls. The bar area is surrounded by surreal sculptures where flowers appear to bloom into faces and human forms. Adding a dramatic vertical element, the ceiling is now hung with enormous, suspended wool cocoons.

Mourad Mazouz, the owner of Sketch, expressed his enthusiasm for this new direction. "I am pleased to unveil this next chapter of the Gallery, created with Jonathan," he said. "At Sketch, I have always believed in championing British artists, giving them the space to experiment, provoke and inspire. This new evolution continues that spirit, and I could not be more excited to share it."

An Artist's Dream Realised

For Jonathan Baldock, the exhibition represents a full-circle moment. "I am grateful for the opportunity to exhibit my work at Sketch restaurant, following in the footsteps of artists I admire," the artist commented. "I have been a fan of Sketch since visiting in my early 20s, and I'm looking forward to being a part of its ongoing legacy." The installation reaffirms Sketch's status not just as a two-Michelin-starred culinary hotspot, but as a pivotal and ever-changing platform for contemporary British art in the heart of London.
