Rajdoot, an Indian restaurant that hosted a 'lifetime of memories', closed its doors in Ruislip Manor for the final time on Sunday, July 5, after more than 45 years in West London.
Family cites multiple obstacles
Announcing the sad news online, the family-run institution on Windmill Hill cited 'many obstacles' that caused the business to struggle. These include a devastating fire in 2018, the Covid pandemic, personal issues and, in more recent times, energy bill hikes.
The owners said: 'We have been established since 1980. We have made Ruislip Manor our home since. We have made great friends, some have attended our weddings and children’s birthdays. I am sure many of you have made memories that will last a life time in our restaurant such as first dates, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, birthdays, mothers and Father’s Day and even weddings.'
Community reaction
News of the sudden closure sparked an outcry from local residents, many of whom have been dining there for several decades. One disappointed diner said: 'End of an era. Thank you so much for serving wonderful food and giving us many special nights.' Another wrote: 'So sorry to hear this. Thank you for the many years of service in the community. We have many a happy memory and always felt so welcome.' A third added: 'This makes me so sad. Have been coming to you guys since I was a child before you expanded. Never been anywhere else. What are we going to do now?'
Broader hospitality challenges
London's hospitality scene has taken some big hits in recent months, with both large chains and independent spots confirming their closure. The ever-increasing list includes Spaghetti House and most of the Patty & Bun sites, as well as Holloway's Sambal Shiok, Leyton-based Queer Brewing and long-running Italian Ombra.
