Soap star Bob Cryer, known for roles in EastEnders, Coronation Street, and Hollyoaks, has shared a moving tribute on social media following the loss of his mother, singer Theresa ‘Terry’ Donovan, at the age of 94.
Heartfelt Tribute
Bob posted a collage of photographs capturing different periods of his mother’s life, accompanied by a touching message. ‘The end of a golden era. I promise that the 94 years of love, warmth and generosity you showed us will live on in our family, friends, neighbours and all who knew you. Fare forward and thank you Mum,’ he wrote.
The post quickly attracted an outpouring of support, including from his former Hollyoaks co-stars. James Redmond, who played Rory Finnigan, wrote, ‘Sorry to hear that, mate. Sending love,’ while Ellis Hollins, known for his role as Tom Cunningham, added a red love heart emoji.
Career Highlights
Bob’s time on Hollyoaks spanned 99 episodes between 2017 and 2019, where he portrayed the killer Glenn Donovan. Glenn was responsible for the deaths of Trigger and Adam Donovan, among others, before being poisoned by Breda McQueen. Bob has also appeared in Coronation Street and Doctors.
His most recent soap appearance came on New Year’s Day 2026, when he played DI Wren in the flash-forward episode of EastEnders. His scenes saw him interrogate Max Branning, played by Jake Wood, on suspicion of soliciting a murder, setting up storylines for the following year.
Family Legacy
Beyond his own successful acting, writing, and directing career, Bob is the son of the late writer and comedian Barry Cryer. Barry and Terry married in 1962 and had four children, including Bob. Barry passed away in January 2022 at the age of 86.
Bob’s tribute serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of family and the support of the soap community during times of loss.
