EastEnders: Anna Knight won't return for Cindy's wedding to Max
EastEnders: Anna Knight snubs Cindy's wedding to Max

EastEnders' arch villainess Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) is reveling in wedding planning joy after accepting Max Branning's (Jake Wood) proposal, but her happiness has been punctured by a harsh reality: her missing daughter Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) will not be attending the nuptials.

While Cindy initially hesitated when Max popped the question, she eventually agreed and has been enthusiastically organizing a grand ceremony. However, their relationship is built on shaky ground. Max's notorious infidelity and Cindy's toxic history with partners have drawn mockery from the Square, prompting Max to propose out of anger at their detractors.

Last week, Cindy told her son Peter Beale (Thomas Law) that she expected Anna to return from her travels in Australia with Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) for the wedding. But in the July 6 episode, she admitted she may have spoken prematurely, as she had not yet asked Anna. She explained to daughter Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) that she had called Anna the night before to share the news, but Cindy was tipsy and Anna mocked her, using her mother's romantic past as ammunition. Anna later sent a text apologizing for her harsh reaction but firmly stated she would not come home for the event. Gina tried to soften the blow, but Cindy was clearly hurt.

Anna's departure and Instagram farewell

Molly Rainford left the soap last year, posting a carousel of images on Instagram to celebrate her time in Walford. 'Your girl Anna Knight is off to Au,' she began. 'I can't put into words just how wonderful the last few years at [EastEnders] has been.' She reflected on her storylines: 'Anna's laughed, cried, worked and lived in the Vic (still surreal), been in a love triangle, been spiked, got pregnant, had tough conversations about Race and her mum came back from the dead. No wonder she needs a break from Walford.' She praised her co-stars, especially 'the lovely Knights, Beales and Peacock/Carters,' and concluded: 'And lets be honest, no one goes travelling forever. Love, Molly.'

Potential return teased

Molly's hint that 'no one goes travelling forever' suggests Anna may eventually return to Albert Square. However, for now, Cindy must plan her wedding without her youngest daughter's blessing or presence.
