Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid split after 13 years

Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid have reportedly parted ways after 13 years together, ending a relationship that included a brief engagement and a previous breakup. The couple, who began dating in 2013, are understood to have separated quietly towards the end of 2025.

Amicable separation after years together

A friend of the couple told the Mail on Sunday that the split was amicable, with no animosity between them. 'Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much. This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives,' the source said.

The 62-year-old Friends star and the 49-year-old Snow Patrol musician had been living between the US and the UK throughout their romance. They first met through mutual friend Ed Sheeran, with whom McDaid co-wrote hits like Shape of You, Photograph, and Galway Girl.

History of ups and downs

The couple got engaged shortly after getting together but broke up in 2015. They reconciled in 2016 and had been together ever since. Cox previously opened up about the breakup on the Minnie Questions podcast, revealing that McDaid ended their engagement during their first therapy session. 'I didn't know it was coming…. We were engaged and I was so shocked. I was in so much pain,' she said.

However, she later expressed gratitude for the split, saying it helped her grow. 'I'm so thankful for that breakup because when we got back together it was a different relationship, but also because it really taught me how I operated in the world — what were the things from my childhood that I needed,' she explained.

Current status and past marriage

It has been several months since the exes were last seen together. Prior to her relationship with McDaid, Cox was married to actor David Arquette from 1999 to 2013. They share a daughter, Coco. Metro has reached out to representatives for both Cox and McDaid for comment.
