The Metropolitan Police have released an e-fit image of a suspect following the rape of a woman in her 20s on Clapham High Street. The attack occurred between 4am and 6am on February 14 after the victim had been on a night out.
Suspect description
Police describe the suspect as of Middle Eastern or southern European appearance, approximately 5 ft 11 inches tall, with a thin build, thick eyebrows, a thick beard, and black hair. He was wearing a plain white top, jeans, and trainers.
The victim and another woman met the suspect outside a bar on Clapham High Street before going to a nearby supermarket. After leaving the supermarket, the victim and the suspect became separated from the other woman. The suspect then took the victim into an alley behind the supermarket and raped her. The victim managed to fight him off and left the scene.
Police appeal
Detective Constable Kay Paterson, leading the investigation, said: "The victim in this case has shown tremendous bravery, coming forward in the wake of an appalling attack. She continues to be supported by specially-trained officers."
Paterson added: "The rape took place in the early hours on Clapham High Street. The suspect and the victim moved between multiple premises – including a pub and supermarket, and we are eager to speak to anyone who has any recollection of seeing them."
"Tackling sexual offending is a top priority for the Met, and we are releasing this e-fit to assist witnesses, or anyone who may recognise the suspect," Paterson said.
Anyone who recognises the suspect is urged to call 101, quoting reference 4819/26FEB.
