A murder investigation is underway in North West London after a 40-year-old man was stabbed to death during a violent altercation at his Maida Vale flat.

Violent Argument Erupts in Residential Block

Police and paramedics were called to Tollgate Gardens, Maida Vale, at 9.40pm on Friday following reports of a serious disturbance. Witnesses described hearing screaming and shouting from the flat before the situation escalated dramatically.

An 89-year-old neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, told of the terrifying moments. "There was screaming and shouting. I couldn't make out what was being said but it was very heated," they said. "Then all hell let loose with police everywhere, it was frightening really."

Victim Described as a 'Decent Guy'

The victim, who has not yet been formally named by authorities, had recently moved into the property following the death of his grandmother, the previous tenant. He was treated at the scene for a stomach wound and other injuries but later died in hospital.

His elderly neighbour recalled a recent act of kindness. "He was a decent guy – recently got a knock on the door from him and he told me I had left my keys in the lock and I should be careful. He was the type to look out for people," they said, adding, "It's a big shock what happened. It's frightening to think the killer is still out there."

Police Hunt and Heightened Security

The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Denby stated: "We are working to establish the full circumstances around this incident. My thoughts are with the victim's family at this unimaginably difficult time."

Specialist family liaison officers are supporting the victim's family. Forensic teams have been scouring the block, which is opposite a Marriott hotel and Carluccio's brasserie, for evidence.

Detectives are conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Westminster Council, which manages Tollgate House, has dispatched extra security patrols in response to the tragedy.

Another resident recounted the chaotic aftermath: "It's terrible what happened. There was a loud argument then police officers rushing up the stairs shortly after. To think a neighbour had been stabbed in their own home is shocking."

Police are appealing for anyone with mobile phone or dash cam footage from the area around the time of the attack to come forward by calling 101.
