Two Men Arrested Over Jewish Ambulance Arson Attack Released on Bail
Two men who were arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack targeting volunteer ambulances operated by the Jewish community have been released on bail. The men, aged 45 and 47, were taken into custody yesterday morning on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Details of the Antisemitic Incident
The arrests follow a disturbing incident in which four ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest's fleet were firebombed outside a synagogue in Golders Green. The attack occurred at approximately 1:40 AM on Monday and is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime by authorities.
Counter-terrorism police have taken over the investigation, underscoring the severity of the case. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that both men arrested are British nationals and have since been released under strict bail conditions while inquiries continue.
Police Response and Community Reassurance
Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, addressed the public regarding the ongoing investigation. She stated, 'Although the two men have been released from police custody, there are strict bail conditions in place while we continue to investigate their suspected involvement in this incident.'
Flanagan further emphasized, 'I can reassure the public that we will be closely monitoring these while we carry out further enquiries. We continue to work to try and identify all of those involved in this appalling attack and the investigation team is working around the clock to do this.'
Appeal for Information and Community Support
The commander expressed gratitude towards the public, particularly the local Jewish community, for their support during this challenging time. She reiterated an appeal for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact the authorities.
This incident has raised significant concerns about safety and hate crimes in the area, prompting a robust police response to ensure justice is served and community tensions are addressed.
