Trump Unveils 'President Donald J Trump Boulevard' in Florida Ceremony
Trump renames Florida road after himself in Mar-a-Lago ceremony

US President Donald Trump has officially unveiled a Florida roadway renamed in his honour during a ceremony at his Mar-a-Lago club. The four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard will now be known as 'President Donald J Trump Boulevard'.

A Ceremonial Link to the Airport

The newly renamed road creates a direct link between Trump's private club and residence in Palm Beach and the nearby Palm Beach International Airport, a route frequently used by the president and his motorcade. The ceremonial brown and yellow street sign was revealed at the event on Friday, January 17, 2026.

Lawmakers had voted unanimously to approve the name change back in September. At the ceremony, Trump expressed that he was 'tremendously honoured' by the recognition, stating he would remember the gesture for the rest of his life.

He addressed the audience, saying that people who look at the sign would be 'filled with pride, just pride, not in me, pride in our country, pride in this state'. He added that this was because the nation was becoming 'stronger, richer and more successful'. Officials confirmed the change is ceremonial and will not affect official addresses, emergency services, or government maps.

Part of a Pattern of Presidential Renaming

This event marks another instance where President Trump has attached his name to Washington's buildings and institutions since his return to office in January 2025. His efforts have not been without controversy.

Previous attempts to rename the Kennedy Center and the US Institute of Peace after himself faced significant public opposition. Furthermore, his presidential term has been punctuated by headline-grabbing and contentious alterations.

Controversial Changes and Global Reactions

In October 2025, Trump's decision to demolish the historic East Wing of the White House to make way for a new, 90,000-square-foot 'gilded ballroom'—a structure that would dwarf the existing 55,000-square-foot White House—angered many Americans.

In December, he drew criticism for installing plaques beneath portraits of former presidents in the White House, which labelled his predecessor, Joe Biden, as 'the worst President in American history'.

Trump has also stirred international concern. A cryptic social media post from the White House showing the president gazing at a map of Greenland reignited fears, given his repeated claims that the territory should become part of the United States.

The renaming of Trump Boulevard stands as the latest symbolic act in a presidency that continues to place a personal stamp on the nation's infrastructure and heritage, celebrating what he views as an era of national success.
