Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) made his shocking return to Emmerdale this week, revealing he is Lewis Barton's (Bradley Riches) biological father in an awkward musical confession. Instead of a calm conversation, Kev played Boyzone's 'Father and Son' on his phone and began singing along.
Kev's return and the diamond plot
Earlier in the week, Kev discovered that Lewis had been kidnapped by a woman named Kylie, who wanted a diamond necklace called Penny back from Kev. Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) initially thought Penny was a woman, but Kev clarified it was a diamond. He initially pretended the diamond was at a pawnbroker's, but was hiding it under his jacket.
Kev had a change of heart and went to Dale View to tell Ross and Liam he had the item. Ross then knocked Kev out with a vase, planning to use him as an insurance trade. However, Kylie only wanted the diamond. After she secured it, Ross raced to the house where Lewis was being held hostage.
Ross's attempt to protect Lewis
To prevent Lewis from learning the truth about Kev, Ross claimed he was the reason for the kidnapping. He did this to protect his little brother, believing Kev wouldn't return to the Dales. But Kev later let himself into Dale View. As Ross begged for silence, Lewis demanded answers.
Kev pulled out his phone and began playing 'Father and Son' by Boyzone, singing along. Lewis was too overwhelmed to understand, so Kev had to explain after the song ended. Kev expressed a desire to get to know Lewis, but Lewis rejected him.
Kev decides to stay
In the pub, Ross confronted Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) about Kev's return and Lewis knowing the truth. They worried about how Lewis would cope. Kev then invited himself into the conversation, announcing he didn't want to drop a bombshell and leave, so he plans to stick around.
According to the article, Kev's decision to stay could lead to further drama in the village.
