Leon Goretzka Eyes Premier League Move After Rejecting Arsenal's January Bid
Goretzka Responds to Arsenal Offer After Failed Transfer

Leon Goretzka Sets Sights on Premier League After Arsenal's Failed January Bid

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is reportedly eager to secure a move to the Premier League this summer, having rejected an approach from Arsenal during the January transfer window. According to German media reports, the 31-year-old German international is out of contract at the end of the season, with Bayern Munich already confirming his departure as a free agent.

Arsenal's Unsuccessful January Approach

BILD reports that Arsenal made a move for Goretzka in January but were unsuccessful in their bid. Despite this setback, Mikel Arteta's side are expected to remain in contention to sign the midfielder on a free transfer when his contract expires. Goretzka is said to have declined the offer as he preferred to make a clean break from Bayern Munich at the end of the season, rather than departing midway through the campaign.

Competition from European Clubs

Goretzka has attracted significant interest from several top European clubs, with Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli all reportedly keen on securing his services. Atletico Madrid attempted to sign him in January, but Goretzka opted to stay with Bayern Munich to help Vincent Kompany's team in their pursuit of the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB Pokal titles.

Premier League as Preferred Destination

Speaking on the Bayern-Insider podcast, BILD's chief reporter Heiko Niedderer revealed that Goretzka is convinced his playing style is perfectly suited to the Premier League. Niedderer stated, 'England in general is his preferred destination – and I think that's where he belongs with his style of play. Tottenham is also a possibility, I'd be happy with that as well.' This indicates a strong inclination towards a move to English football, with Arsenal potentially being an exciting option in the summer.

Bayern Munich's Confirmation and Future Plans

Bayern Munich's sporting director, Christoph Freund, commented last month on Goretzka's situation, saying, 'Leon feels very much at home in this club and this team. Despite several quality inquiries, he has decided to stay here until the end of the season. After open and constructive talks, we have come to the conclusion together that he will seek out a new challenge in the summer.' Freund highlighted Goretzka's eight successful years at the club and his commitment to winning more titles before his departure.

The midfielder's decision to delay his move until summer allows him to focus on Bayern's trophy ambitions, while setting the stage for a high-profile transfer to the Premier League, where clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham could be vying for his signature.
