London Underground Mobile Coverage: Full 4G/5G Network by End of 2026
Full mobile coverage for London Underground by end of 2026

Londoners are set to finally get comprehensive mobile phone signal across the entire London Underground network, with Transport for London (TfL) confirming a clear timeline for the rollout. The project, which will bring 4G and 5G connectivity to platforms, ticket halls, and tunnels, is advancing rapidly, with a major milestone expected this summer.

Current Progress and Station Connectivity

More than half of the deep-level Tube stations now have coverage, according to the latest update. Specifically, 62 out of the 121 stations situated underground are now live, allowing passengers to make calls, browse the internet, and stream video while waiting for their train.

Recent additions to the network include key stations such as Euston Square, Cannon Street, and Battersea Power Station. Furthermore, major transport hubs like King's Cross St Pancras and Vauxhall are scheduled to be connected within the next few months.

Tunnel Coverage and Summer Deadlines

The programme has moved beyond stations and is now actively bringing connectivity to the tunnels themselves. Sections of the Circle and District lines, namely between Blackfriars and Cannon Street and between Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater, are already operational.

Significantly, TfL has confirmed that the vast majority of both the Northern and Metropolitan lines should have full mobile coverage in their tunnels by the end of this summer. This represents a major step forward in creating a seamless connected journey for millions of commuters.

The Final Goal: A Fully Connected Network

The overarching target remains for the whole London Underground network to have 4G and 5G coverage by the end of 2026. This ambitious project requires engineers to work overnight during limited engineering hours to install the necessary infrastructure without disrupting daytime services.

Isabel Coman, TfL's Director of Engineering and Asset Strategy, stated: “It’s great to see further progress in our goal to introduce high-speed mobile coverage across our Tube network. The latest stations and tunnels going live means that we are on a clear path towards having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole network by the end of 2026.”

Deputy Mayor for Transport, Seb Dance, added: “This means Londoners and visitors can now access the latest travel information or social media, check their emails, make calls, and stream videos whilst on the move underground.”

In parallel, TfL has set the same end-of-2026 deadline to provide mobile coverage on the London Overground between Highbury & Islington and New Cross, as well as on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Successful tests were conducted in 2025 to ensure TfL's systems could handle the full network rollout.
