London Underground and TfL Lines Face Weekend Closures: Full Disruption List

Passengers across London are set to encounter significant travel disruptions this weekend, with Transport for London confirming multiple line closures and service reductions. The disruptions will affect several key routes on Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22, impacting thousands of daily commuters and weekend travelers.

London Underground Closures

Metropolitan Line: From Thursday, February 19, through Sunday, February 22, the Metropolitan line will be completely closed between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham, Chesham, and Watford. This closure is due to essential signalling improvements aimed at enhancing network reliability. As a result, all Chiltern Railways services between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Marylebone via Amersham will also be suspended. Rail replacement buses will operate to all affected stations, though journey times are expected to be longer than usual.

Northern Line: Until late February, southbound trains will not stop at West Finchley station due to ongoing maintenance work on the footbridge. Passengers traveling southbound are advised to travel northbound to Woodside Park and change for a southbound train. For those requiring step-free access, the recommendation is to travel north to High Barnet and change for a southbound train or use local bus services. If exiting at West Finchley is necessary, continue to Finchley Central and return on a northbound service.

London Overground Disruptions

Windrush Line: On Sunday, February 22, there will be no service between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction until 10:15 AM. Affected passengers can utilize local bus routes. During this period, both Windrush line and Southern Railway services will not call at Clapham Junction and will instead divert to and from Battersea Park.

Elizabeth Line Service Changes

Saturday, February 21: After 11:45 PM, trains will not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell, or West Ealing. Passengers are advised to use local bus routes as an alternative.

Sunday, February 22: No service will operate between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7:45 AM, with Tube services or local bus routes recommended. Additionally, trains will not run between Paddington and Abbey Wood, and between Whitechapel and Stratford until 11:15 AM. Alternative options include Tube, London Overground, or DLR services, along with local bus routes. From 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM, trains will not stop at Burnham or Taplow, with a replacement bus service in place during this time.

DLR Closures

Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22: Due to track maintenance, there will be no service between Bank and Tower Gateway, and between Poplar and West India Quay. Passengers should use Tube or Overground services as alternatives.

Major Tram Network Disruption

A two-week programme of upgrades has led to partial closures on the Tram network, affecting services from Wednesday, February 11, to Wednesday, February 25. Engineers are carrying out track renewal work at Sandilands Junction and between Gravel Hill and Addington Village. Consequently, there is no service from East Croydon to Beckenham Junction, Elmers End, or New Addington during this period.

Replacement buses are operating between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction via Elmers End, and between East Croydon and New Addington. These buses will serve all Tram stops except for Lebanon Road, which is less than 500 metres from Sandilands. TfL has stated that this work will make journeys more reliable and reduce the risk of future disruptions.

Mark Davis, general manager for London Trams, commented: We recognise the disruption this closure may cause and are sorry for any inconvenience. These works are essential to maintain a safe, reliable network. Renewing the track now will improve tram performance in the long term, helping to reduce the risk of defects and unplanned service disruption. We’ve timed the works to coincide with the school half-term to reduce the impact, and we’re providing alternative transport options and clear travel advice to help customers plan ahead. Trams will continue to run as normal between East Croydon and Wimbledon.
