Sexual assault on London Underground worker at Liverpool Street

The British Transport Police (BTP) have launched a public appeal following a serious sexual assault on a London Underground employee at one of the capital's busiest stations.

Attack at the Ticket Barriers

The incident took place at Liverpool Street Underground Station on Tuesday, December 16. According to police reports, the assault occurred at approximately 4.40pm near the ticket barriers.

After the initial assault, the attacker is alleged to have prevented the Transport for London (TfL) worker from leaving the area. The suspect then followed the staff member until a colleague intervened, bringing the confrontation to an end.

Appeal for Information and Suspect Description

BTP investigators have released an image of a man they believe could hold vital information about the attack. They are urging the public to come forward if they recognise him.

The individual is described as appearing to be of South Asian heritage with a short haircut. At the time of the incident, which was captured on body-worn camera, he was wearing a black hoodie and carrying a black rucksack.

Authorities have provided multiple ways for the public to share information:

  • Text BTP on 61016.
  • Call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference number 529 of 16 December.
  • Contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Station Details and TfL Response

Liverpool Street is a major Zone 1 interchange, served by the Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, and Elizabeth lines. The station experiences extremely high footfall, particularly during the evening rush hour when the attack took place.

A spokesperson for Transport for London confirmed they had been contacted regarding the incident and are supporting the police investigation. The welfare of the assaulted staff member is being prioritised.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of frontline transport workers, who regularly interact with the public in often challenging environments.
