Kaipiras by Barraco Tops Time Out's First Brazilian Restaurant Guide in London

Brazil is celebrated globally as a dynamic travel destination, yet its rich and diverse culinary traditions have often remained underappreciated in the United Kingdom. In response, Time Out has launched its inaugural guide to Brazilian food in London, spotlighting the city's finest establishments, from steakhouses to spots serving iconic cheese rolls known as pão de queijo.

A Traditional Boteco Takes the Lead

Topping the 20-strong list is Kaipiras by Barraco, a traditional boteco located in Kilburn, northwest London. A boteco is a small Brazilian bar typically offering cold beer and casual bites. Tomé Morrissy-Swan, the author of Time Out's Brazilian restaurants guide, praised Kaipiras as the closest facsimile to a boteco in London. He suggested that visitors close their eyes and envision themselves on sunny Ipanema beach rather than on an unremarkable thoroughfare off Kilburn High Road.

Morrissy-Swan recommended enjoying an Antarctica beer at Kaipiras while savoring cassava fries, acarajé—Bahian black-eyed pea fritters stuffed with a coconut and prawn paste—and the standout beef rib stew. The restaurant offers an affordable dining experience, with starters priced up to £10 and mains ranging between £15 and £20.

Other Notable Entries in the Guide

In second place, Fine Cut Steakhouse in Elephant & Castle was highlighted as a lively venue for meat lovers. Filó Brazil, operated by former MasterChef contestant Aline Quina, secured third place, adding to the guide's diverse recommendations.

This guide aims to elevate the profile of Brazilian cuisine in London, encouraging food enthusiasts to explore its vibrant flavors and cultural offerings.
